Dates: TBD —– | —– Cost: £895.00
This course is presented by Dr Carrie Schlachter, DVM. The 4-day course is offered through a classroom and hands-on approach. The topics covered are essential knowledge for anyone in the equine health care field and equine performance to truly understand soundness in the horse.
When you step back to look at a horse or when you watch a horse move, do you ever wonder what you should be looking for to objectively evaluate conformation, gaits and asymmetry? Do you know the common conformation faults and possible consequences of various defects? Do find yourself contemplating on how the muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones produce movement? Can you name the footfalls of the common gaits? Even if you have some insight to a few of the questions, the progressive horseperson should always have more.
The clinicians present the information using specimens, live horses, slides, diagrams and high-speed video. Students will learn to palpate bony landmarks to place markers for joint angle and inclination measurements. High-speed video allows students to view horses in slow motion for an easier assessment. Discussion is encouraged amongst the participants on how conformation, gait and lameness relate to performance, physical and behavioural issues. Participants will learn how to diagram footfalls of the horse and will be guided through the protocol of equine gait and lameness assessments of live horses.
No matter how you are involved in the horse industry, don’t miss this opportunity to improve your skills and build on your knowledge.

Tuition: Includes course hand-outs and supplies
Prerequisites:
This course is open students with a good knowledge of veterinary vocabulary, anatomy and horse handling skills. (Recognised equine bodywork courses which focus on anatomy or an equine anatomy course of at least 150 hours will usually cover enough to prepare participants). Participants of the Equinology Equine Body Worker ® Certification course will be well-prepared even if their externship has not yet been completed. Students new to the field are welcome to participate but must have good horse handling skills and must register for the EQ50: Precourse Distance Equine Anatomy Course. Please register ahead of time for the precourse study to allow plenty of time to go through the material.
Suggested Reading: as for Equinology Equine Body Worker® Certification Course
This course is required for completion of the Equinology Equine Body Worker® Level II certification.
To continue to one of the next progressive certification levels, this course is also required for the MEEBW and ESEBW certifications.
